Prof David Jenkin’s
Glycemic index of foods: a physiological basis for carbohydrate exchange published in 1981 dramatically changed our understanding of carbohydrates and their effect on our bodies. Since then, research around the world has highlighted that the GI has implications for everybody including helping people maintain weight loss. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of its publication in
AJCN, Fiona Atkinson, Manager of SUGiRS spoke with Prof Jenkins about the background to publishing the original paper and his current thoughts on GI, diet and health in general and Dr Alan Barclay reports on the incredible GI research journey.
